Heroic Update Incoming!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Feb 13, 2020 at 04:20:12 PM

There's a LOT to unpack in this update, so let's jump in!

The Golden Fleece has been found!

Overnight we passed the £31,000 Stretch Goal which has unlocked the Golden Fleece objective marker as an item we are giving away FREE to all backers who have pledged £130 or more (regardless of the pledge level they have chosen). Very exciting!

Now we are onwards and upwards to unlock the best Minotaur miniature ever made!

Temple Guard Leaders now available as separate Add-Ons!

We've had a few requests for these unit leaders to be made available separately, and who are we do deny you all? The Temple Guard Unit Leaders join the other Heroes that can be added to your pledge for £5 each.

New Temple Guard Shield Designs

We've been chatting with Dan Kelly of Lion Tower Miniatures, the wonderful man who sculpted the popular Spartan and Athenian shields for us, and he has sculpted these three new designs for the Temple Guard shields. Anybody who has pledged for a unit of Temple Guard will receive 9 of these shields (with the god-appropriate design, of course). We hope you like these as much as we do!

And finally, from the pen of George Asling, co-author of Mortal Gods: Mythic, a look at the Heroes & Demigods faction, posted to the Mortal Gods Facebook page HERE.

FACTION FOCUS - HEROES & DEMIGODS

There is a lot of ground to cover on this one as there are a lot of heroes and gifts in this card pack, so I will focus on Jason, the Argonauts and a few of the gifts that you will see in this faction.

The idea behind the Heroes & Demigods faction is to provide people with a selection of heroic characters and gifts that can be added to their existing Lochos to add a Mythic twist.

Jason

How could we not have Jason in our Mythic expansion? This guy is a machine on the tabletop one of the key things we wanted was for Jason to be the match for our big beasts. Coming in at 100 points, he isn’t cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for! To start he has a boosted Heroic Inspire, this grants any friendly heavy or medium warriors within 6” of Jason
+1 attack AND +1 defence. Next up we have the Hera’s Guidance ability, during the course of the game Jason can choose to discard up to three omen cards. If there is something you don’t like or don’t want to happen Hera will step in and twist the will of the Gods for you. Finally , my favourite of Jason’s abilities, we have Coordinated Attack. With this ability you can roll a d3 and draw that many white activation pebbles from the bag and assign them to friendly warriors within 8’’ of Jason. You can activate these warriors to attack at the same time as Jason for a devastating strike against a single target. Of course he also has the Mythic Defence ability which is the cherry on top of a very tough cake.

The Argonauts

The Argonauts bring a very tough bunch of companions to your Lochos. Not only do these guys have a very respectable stat line, they also gain Mythic Defence when they are within 6’’ of Jason. Combined with his Coordinated Attack it makes for a very deadly combination.

Atalanta and Orpheus

Here we have two hero class characters to accompany Jason in the field against the beasts your opponent will throw at them.
Atalanta is fast and deadly with her Quickstrike ability. if a Pegasus is rolled on Atalanta’s attack roll you may make a second, free attack with an attack value of 3. This can be utilised for assassinating your opponents characters and taking chunks out of big monsters.
Orpheus can lull your enemies into a stupor with his heavenly melodies, forcing them to pass a courage roll in order to activate.

Heracles and Hylas

Another iconic duo to add to your Lochos, Heracles and Hylas work best when played together. Heracles brings Mythic Defence and Heroic Inspire to the table as detailed above with Jason, an awesome way to give your regular warriors a much needed boost in battle. He also has the Monster Hunter ability, Heracles can re-roll any failed damage dice during the damage roll against enemies with the Large special rule.
Hylas acts as a support to Heracles. If he is within 6’’ of Heracles it will increase the range of his heroic inspire to a whopping 12”. However if Hylas is slain, Heracles will go into a rage and must charge the closest enemy in range immediately.

Mythic Defence and Mirrored shield Gifts

As mentioned before this card pack includes a hell of a lot of gifts to give your warriors. This allows you to tool out your current Lochagos as a custom hero or to make your favourite group that little bit more special. One of these is Mythic Defence, we have seen this as natural abilities on most of the mythic warriors but it is also available at a cost to give to a warrior of your choice. There are also weapons that can cut through Mythic Defence so don't get too complacent.
Another of my favourites is the Mirrored Shield gift, this can turn an enemy’s ability back on itself. Medusa trying to turn you to stone? Not any more! Priest of Zeus trying to Thunderbolt you? Not anymore!

I hope you have enjoyed this brief look into the hero faction. There is so much more fun stuff in there that I will try and share with you all in the near future.

Until next time...

What happens at the end of the Kickstarter campaign?
almost 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 12, 2020 at 04:10:37 PM

We've been fielding a few questions recently about what happens at the end of the campaign (this Sunday, at 5pm GMT/12pm EST) so we figured it would be a good idea to talk about that.

Campaign Timeline

Today, February 12th - This is the time you can make sure you have increased your pledge amount to include that value of all the Add-Ons you would like to grab. There's a great graphic on the campaign page that walks you through the process.

Sunday, February 16th, at 5pm GMT - The campaign draws to a close and Kickstarter starts to charge your credit/debit cards for the amount you have pledged. This typically happens immediately, but can take up to two weeks.

Next Week - We'll get into the swing of things, making all the moulds we need for production and start preparing to cast the orders you'll be confirming in the pledge manager.

Early March - We will have created the BackerKit pledge manager and will send out an invitation/survey to everyone of our backers. At this point you will be able to go to your personalized page and select the actually Add-Ons you pledged you money for earlier. You will also be able to select more items should you wish, and then you'll be able to pay for shipping. Note: the BackerKit pledge manager has the option for payment with PayPal, which could be very helpful for a lot of you.

Also Early March - The BackerKit Pre-order Store will open, so that your friends who missed out on the campaign will be able to jump in too.

Just To Clarify

The best thing to do to make sure we can unlock that Minotaur during the campaign is to adjust your pledge amount to make sure you have covered all of the things you would like to receive (by following the steps in the graphic above).

Example: You have pledged for the Devoted of Zeus (Metal/Resin) for £140, but you would also like to get three packs of Satyrs with Bows (£21 total), the Satyr Leader (£5), another set of 9 Temple Guard of Zeus (£20), and the Minotaur (£30), so you would increase your pledge amount from £140 to £216.

Once you receive the invitation to the pledge manager you will get to pick and choose exactly what you want to spend that increased amount on. Per our example, that would be the Satyrs, the leader, the Temple Guard, and the Minotaur. Also per our example, this backer would also receive the Zeus card deck, the Mythic rules booklet, the Mortal Gods rules PDF, the Sacrificial Altar, the Severed Hydra Heads, and the Golden Fleece all for FREE!

We'll be here, ready to answer any questions you may have. Just let us know.

And here are a few other photos of Satyrs I was able to paint up during our recent little snowstorm.

Severed Hydra Heads! The Golden Fleece! The Minotaur!
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Feb 11, 2020 at 04:18:15 PM

We're very excited to have passed the latest Stretch Goal which gives two Severed Hyrda heads FREE to everyone backer who has pledged £100 or more (regardless of their faction choices etc). Next up is the fabled Golden Fleece, ready to be sent to backers pledging £130 or more.

After that it is on to the Minotaur! Trish has dropped off the master sculpt and we were able to snap a size comparison photo with the big beasties. Both the Cyclops and Hydra are on 80mm bases, the Minotaur will come with a 60mm base.

We have had a few questions regarding the Minotaur's price once he is added (let's hit that Stretch Goal!) and now that we've had the model in hand we can confirm that his regular price will be £35, BUT we are so excited to have him now that we'll offer him for £30 to Kickstarter backers. So, if you know you want him, bumping your pledge up by £30 now will help us get closer to unlocking him.

New Temple Guard photos!

Over the weekend I was able to finish up casting three sets of shields for the Temple Guard units and get them sprayed grey. Here are the new photos so you can get a better look at the details. The Zeus unit of course are sporting a lightning bolt, Hades has a skull, and Hera has her peacock feather which should be great for folks interested in using those colour shift metallic paints. These Temple Guard units are included in each of the Devoted level and Pantheon pledges, but can also be added to any pledge level for just £20.

And finally, I also managed to get some paint onto the Satyrs this weekend. Here's a quick shot of the Satyrs with Spears (only £7 for a pack of three).

Thanks for sharing and supporting this campaign!

Finished Minotaur photos, and a Faction Focus
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Feb 10, 2020 at 04:27:03 PM

Trish Carden finished this guy up over weekend and has posted some additional photos on her Facebook page (if you aren't following her there, you really should: https://www.facebook.com/TrishCardenminiaturesanddesign/). We have all been blown away by the model and we are excited to march towards unlocking it before the campaign end this Sunday (5pm GMT, 12pm EST)!

We are very close to unlocking the FREE severed Hydra heads for all pledges above £100, so let's see if we can make that happen today! Share the campaign with as many gaming friends as possible.

And now, from the pen of co-author of Mortal Gods: Mythic George Asling, we have a look at Zeus' faction.

FACTION FOCUS ZEUS

No game based in ancient Greek mythology would be complete without Zeus being there somewhere. This faction has great all round ability that can be specialised in many different ways.

Priest of Zeus

The priest of Zeus is a very handy chap to have around, not only because you need him to take all the beasties you want in your Zeus faction force, but also because he is blessed with the ability to call forth Zeus’ mighty thunderbolt and smite your foes. Once per round the priest can sling a thunderbolt at an enemy within 24 inches and try and blast them into oblivion.

The Centaurs

To start with we have the Centaur Hero, this guy really packs a punch. With the maneuverability of cavalry and the Weapon Choice special rule the Centaur Hero is a very versatile leader. He can pick off enemies at a distance or make a devastating Cavalry Charge if they come too close. Perfect for keeping up with your half-man, half-horse Lochos. Now the ‘regular’ centaurs, these guys come in two major flavours, civilised and wild. Both flavours of Centaur have a melee and a ranged option available. The civilised Centaurs can deny a phalanx its free defence action as long as they have 3 or more resistance remaining. The wild Centaurs on the other hand go into a Wild Rage when they are reduced to 2 or less resistance and gain a bonus to their attack as they let out their fury.

The Satyrs

The Satyrs are tricky little blighters, they like a drink and they are swift on their feet. Again we have melee and ranged options for these guys. With the Hit and Run rule they are hard to pin down. However, there is the chance they may have drank far too much and go into a drunken rage attacking the closest group of warriors be they friend or foe!

The Minotaur

The Minotaur is one angry chap. That big old axe grants the Minotaur the Cleave rule. With this rule the Minotaurs attacks ignore armour so any warrior he attacks will count as light for the purposes of the combat. Not only that but those razor sharp horns have the Rend ability, if the minotaur charges over 7 inch into the enemy he will gain an extra attack from those horns. All in all he is a close combat machine and one you don’t want to mess with.

The Cyclops

The big man, one of the most feared beasts in our Mythic world. This guy brings a whopping 10 resistance to the table, he's not an easy character to bring down. That huge tree trunk he carries? Yeah you can use that in the game. The swipe special rule means you can attack more than one enemy in base contact to devastating effect. Not only that but the Cyclops can hurl giant boulders and his enemies. The landing position of the boulder is randomly determined by a dice roll and then the stone will roll through any units in its path. If you get lucky you can line up lots of enemies and roll a big ol’ rock right through them all.

Temple Guard

The Temple Guard of Zeus are heavily armoured and ready to defend the mightiest of Gods. They are imbued with the power of thunder. When they deal damage in combat they can push back the enemy twice as far. This means they can push an enemy back 2 inch minimum and if you deal 4 or more damage you can push back your enemy a whole 4 inches.

The Temple Guard are here!
almost 5 years ago – Sun, Feb 09, 2020 at 10:08:35 PM

It's pretty late for an update today, but we just couldn't wait. We were able to get the casts out of the master moulds today for the Temple Guard Leaders and the various helmets for each god. The moulds for the shields are still curing, and we couldn't wait until Monday so here we are. We thank Stavros for his excellent work on these!

The photos are a little rushed (we'll have some fresh ones soon) but we wanted to let you all know that the Temple Guard units are now added as, well... Add-Ons. Not only do these units appear in the Devoted and Pantheon pledge levels, you can now Add-On units for £20 each. I know there are quite a few of you who have been waiting for us to add these into the mix, and we're happy to be able to do it now.

Why now? Well, with us getting ever closer to the second miniature freebie (the severed Hydra heads at £29,000) we want to announce the big stretch goal. The Minotaur!

That's right. At £36,000 we'll be able to unlock this mighty beast as an Add-On. We've been tracking pretty well over the last week, and we think we'll be able to make it to this goal, particularly now that the Temple Guard units are available separately. Early next week we should be able to show you a full spread of photos of the final sculpt before it gets cut up into its component pieces for casting.

Trish has done a fantastic job on this Minotaur. Everyone we've shown the work in progress photos to says that they think this might be the best Minotaur model ever made. We're a bit biased, but we definitely agree.

Thanks, everyone, for your support and continuing to share the project. We hope you've enjoyed this update as much as we have!
